One year after we assumed responsibility for the Infant Child Development (ICD) Program, families are experiencing more connected, coordinated, and responsive early intervention services.

Since welcoming the program in April 2025 and transitioning 78 children, the Centre has expanded supports for infants and young children with developmental delays or those at risk of delay. Five Infant Child Development Consultants now provide home-based services from birth to school entry, helping caregivers build the knowledge, confidence, and routines that support their child’s development during the earliest years.

What makes the program unique is its focus on meeting families where they are. Whether in a family home, shelter, park, or EarlyON Centre, consultants observe children in their natural environments and coach caregivers during everyday routines. This personalized approach strengthens relationships, reduces barriers to accessing support, and empowers families to build on their child’s strengths in meaningful, practical ways.

Bringing the program into our organization has also strengthened collaboration across services. Consultants now work seamlessly with occupational therapists, physiotherapists, speech-language pathologists, behaviour therapists, and social workers, creating smoother referrals, shared care planning, and more timely access to specialized supports.

The program has continued to evolve over the past year with the introduction of new group opportunities, including Early Beginnings for infants born prematurely and Otter Pups, an interactive music and aquatic program that promotes early development while strengthening parent-child connections. These initiatives have expanded access to early intervention while creating valuable opportunities for families to learn from one another.

By supporting children and caregivers during the earliest stages of development, the Infant Child Development Program is helping build strong foundations that will benefit families for years to come.
