Days of Significance Calendar

We value the diverse identities, experiences, perspectives, and abilities of the children, youth, families, staff, board members, and community partners who make up our community.

The calendar provides opportunities for learning, reflection, recognition and celebration, while helping us better understand and appreciate the diverse experiences, identities and perspectives within our community. It is curated by our EDIA Committee as a resource to support meaningful engagement throughout the year.

Note: Select days may vary by a few days before or after the indicated date due to the observance of the lunar calendar for some cultures/faiths and time zones.

Orthodox Easter

Easter is a major festival of the Christian church year, celebrating the Resurrection of Jesus on the third day after the Crucifixion. In Western churches, Easter falls on a Sunday between March 22 and April 25, depending on the date of the first full moon after the spring equinox. This time was fixed after the Council of Nicaea (325 CE). In the Eastern Orthodox calendar, which uses a different calculation, Easter often falls later. A joyful festival and a time of redemption, Easter brings an end to the long period of penitential preparation that constitutes Lent.
