At Niagara Children's Centre, we embrace the diverse identities, experiences, perspectives, and abilities of our children, youth, their families, our staff, board members, and community partners. This calendar has been thoughtfully curated to equally celebrate, acknowledge, and embrace the richness of our community.

Note: Select days may vary a few days before or after the indicated date due to the observance of the lunar calendar for some cultures/faiths and time zones.

Cri du Chat Awareness Day

Cri du Chat Syndrome, also known as 5P- Syndrome, is a rare disease first described in 1963 by doctor Lejeune who named the disorder after the distinctive cat-like cry. In French, Cri du chat translates into “cry of the cat”. Individuals are also known to have slow growth, developmental disabilities, distinctive features and a moderate to severe intellectual disability. Each year, International Cri du Chat Awareness Week is held through the first week of May along with International Cri Du Chat Awareness Day on May 5th, to raise awareness for this rare condition that affects one in 25,000.
