Board of Directors

Niagara Children’s Centre is governed by an 11-member volunteer board of directors, operating under a policy governance model. Board meetings occur monthly, September to June.  Our Annual General Meeting is held in June of every year. Niagara Children’s Centre’s Board of Directors contribute to our vision of: “Niagara’s Children and Youth at Their Best”

Annually, the Nominations Committee of the Board is responsible for reviewing the terms and composition of the Board, and recruiting when vacancies arise. Directors serve 3-year terms, renewable for up to 2 additional terms.

Join our board of directors

We are currently seeking two (2) qualified candidates to serve on our volunteer governing board beginning June 2022.  In particular, we are looking for community members with senior leadership experience in any of the following areas: 
  • Strategy development/strategic leadership
  • Transformation and innovation through technology
  • People and Culture
  • Entrepreneurship
  • Project Management
  • Health/ health service system management including
We are committed to a board that reflects:
  • the diversity of the Niagara community 
  • “lived experience” with the nature of the services provided by the Centre
Previous governance experience is preferred.


  • operates with a policy governance framework and provides strategic organizational leadership, vision, and maintains high ethical standards.  They engage in effective planning to respond to the needs of our communities, and acts as stewards of our resources. 
  • meets monthly throughout the year, for approximately 2.5 hours (evenings).  In addition, Board committees meet as needed.
  • new members receive orientation to the work of the agency and  the role of the board 
  • Directors serve 3 year terms, renewable up to 2 additional terms.

Directors should

  • be committed to the Vision, Mission and Values;
  • be committed to both the local and regional roles of the Children's Centre;
  • be capable of giving leadership to the work of the Children's Centre;
  • be an ambassador, committed to actively promoting Niagara Children’s Centre;
  • be committed to supporting fundraising initiatives of the Centre;
  • have respect for the views of others.


To be eligible, persons wishing to apply shall:

  • have their principal residence or work in the Niagara Region;
  • be 18 years of age or more;
  • not be an employee of the Children's Centre;
  • not be a family member of any employee of the Children's Centre;
  • undertake, as a condition of membership, to act only in the best interests of Niagara Children's Centre and not on behalf of any single issue cause.
